Dr Norbert Poth, former president of the M\u00fcnchener Rennverein e.V., passed away on 22 May. Through his role as head of marketing at Winterthur Insurance, Poth became involved in horse racing in the 1990s and developed a passion for both flat and harness racing. He was responsible for numerous sponsorship deals at both Munich racecourses and soon made a name for himself as an owner of thoroughbreds. The entrepreneur, who served on the board of HPI for many years and was part of Franz Beckenbauer\u2019s advisory circle alongside Feodor Radmann, among others, stood for election as president in Riem in 2010, succeeding Wolfgang Wille. Together with Hans-Gerd Wernicke and Franz Knott, as well as Secretary-General Rudi Oster, he worked on a plan to secure the future of Munich as a horse racing venue. To this end, there were plans to sell the Munich Racing Club\u2019s training facilities to a private investor. The contracts that had already been drawn up failed to secure a majority at the 2012 general meeting; the deal fell through and Dr Poth and his colleagues stepped down from their posts. Dr Poth remained a member of the Munich Racing Club until the end and, before moving to K\u00f6nigstein im Taunus due to his advancing age, was a frequent visitor to the racecourse in Riem.
