The Handicap II over 2,200m was endowed with 10,000 euros in prize money, and the winning team from the Flying Dreams stable received 5,000 euros. “He is an absolute speed horse, he pulled off a great final spurt, there is still room for improvement,” said winning rider Wladimir Panov about the 3.2:1 betting odds.
“The rocket” is trained in Hanover-Langenhagen by Dominik Moser, who has been able to rely on his stable being in good form for weeks. Things are also going well for the jockey, as Panov had already scored points in the Handicap III over 2,000m. On Darling Street (9.0:1), trained by Stefan Richter in Dresden, he managed a narrow victory against the favorite First Vision. Leipzig trainer Marco Angermann also scored two hits: first with the four-year-old Power Up (2.7:1) with Patrick Gibson over 2,100m and directly afterwards over 1,600m with the five-year-old Heyne’s Henry (3.4:1) with Jan Verner in the saddle.
Aram like a better class horse
Visitors saw a horse of better class right at the start of the early summer race day. The three-year-old Aram (7.3:1) from the Darius Racing stable easily won the Von Alm Das Beste race over 2,000m by four lengths ahead of the favorite Alaska Tiger. “We always had guts for the stallion,” said Darius Racing manager Holger Faust. “He is now running in the Hamburg stayer auction race on Derby day.” Due to an injury, Aram’s season debut was postponed and the stallion was dropped from the Derby. Aram’s trainer is Waldemar Hickst, and young rider Leon Wolf was in the saddle.
The second race of the day, which was dedicated to the Munich cultural festival Yaz Aski and was over 1,600m, was also reserved for three-year-olds. The mare Arina (2.6:1) trained by Roland Dzubasz in Berlin-Hoppegarten won with Michael Abik. Arina is also likely to aim for Hamburg as her next start and will tackle either the mile auction race or the even higher-prized group race for mares on Derby day.
Home win by Werner Glanz
Second behind Arina was Karinas Dream, ridden by Werner Glanz. The Austrian, who has been working in Riem for many years, soon secured the first home victory in Riem with the six-year-old Wyono in the Handicap III over 1,400m. Sarah Biessey steered the 3.0:1 chance to a safe victory over her stablemate High Flight. “We had already calculated something with the weight reduction,” said Biessey afterwards. “He is a super horse.”
In the final amateur race over 2,400m, the Luimex.de race, the favorite, five-year-old Aroaki (2.6:1), prepared by Michael Figge in Riem, won with Kevin Braye for the Apfelkorn stable – reason enough to raise a glass!
Riems General Secretary Sascha Multerer was very satisfied. “Good attendance, a good atmosphere and satisfactory sales for a PMU race day show once again that the people of Munich are happy to accept what the racecourse has to offer and that the racecourse is a popular destination. Now we are looking forward to the Dallmayr race day on July 31st, which after two years of pandemic can take place again in its usual form, as the “biggest coffee party in the world”.
