New York City on course for hard-fought victory at Allianz Family Race Day in Riem

Good mood and strong attendance at the start of the holidays

The three-year-old New York City won in style on the race track in Munich-Riem on Whit Saturday and remains on course for greater challenges. However, the mare, who was prepared on site by Sarah Steinberg for the Ebbesloh stud farm, had to work much harder for the win than expected. It was the sporting highlight of the Allianz Family Race Day, which was well attended by 4,500 spectators and supported by the evening newspaper in ideal weather conditions.

With top jockey Rene Piechulek in the saddle, New York City had to fight hard for victory in the MIG Fund race, a 1,600m competition with prize money of 8,000 euros. The Sea The Moon daughter, bred by the owner, only narrowly beat the three-year-old Conde. “Today’s race was a build-up start over too short a distance,” said trainer Steinberg calmly. “We’re sticking to our plan.” The plan has the Diana Prize at the beginning of August, the mares’ derby with half a million euros, as its big goal for the season. First up is the Diana Trial in Berlin-Hoppegarten.

Five victories remain in Riem

The success in New York City was by no means the only home victory: four of the seven tests went to the Riem training center. This began with the four-year-old mare Northern Starlet, prepared by Michael Figge, who secured the Schloss Tüssling Prize over 2,400m with the young rider Celine Johne. In the Allianz – strong together – race over 1,600m, the five-year-old mare Heshima surprised everyone for Karoly Kerekes, ridden by amateur Ines Löwe. Swen Straßmeier is the trainer, owner and rider in one. He won the first round of the Bavarian Amateur Championships, the Woyzeck race over 2,000m, with the three-year-old Superjet.

The Czech guest Storm Kodi won the final, the Abendzeitung Prize over 1,600m. Tomas Roman steered the five-year-old mare, trained by Jiri Broz, to success. Two victories went to Iffezheim near Baden-Baden, in both cases the winning rider was the multiple champion jockey Bauyrzhan Murzabayev. First he helped the four-year-old mare Tante Tilly, trained by Gerald Geisler, to her first success in her tenth race. He then played a decisive role in Direct Hit’s second success in a row in Riem for Fabian Xaver Weißmeier in the Pasing Arcaden Prize over 1,300m.

Next race day on 24 June

The next race day is on Monday, June 24th. The Häussler After Work race day was a great success last year. “We are expecting a full house again this year,” stresses the managing director of the Munich Racing Club, Sascha Multerer. This applies even more to the Dallmayr race day at the end of July with the Grand Dallmayr Prize as the focus – one of only seven Group I races in Germany. Munich is the only German racing club to host two races in the highest sporting category – the Grand Allianz Prize of Bavaria concludes the series in November.
