Rene Piechulek will defend his title in the Arc – this time with a Munich horse

Munich premiere of the classic

After his victory last year with Torquator Tasso, Rene Piechulek will compete on Sunday with Mendocino, trained by Munich trainer Sarah Steinberg, against last year’s winner in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, among others.

This has never happened before: A Munich horse in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe! Rene Piechulek knows how to win one of the most important races in Europe – in 2021 he was successful with the German horse Torquator Tasso. Now he is competing with Mendocino, trained by Sarah Steinberg and owned by Stall Salzburg, against this same Torquator Tasso. They showed that the two can beat him at the beginning of September in the Grand Prix of Baden when they left “TT” under Frankie Dettori and the Derby winner Sammarco behind as outsiders. The next task now is on Sunday in the legendary Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. But there are some other strong opponents in the way of the two there. We’re keeping our fingers crossed and wish them all the best!
