From May 18th to 21st, the Pferd International Munich will be held for the 40th time in the immediate vicinity of the Munich racecourse . This traditional event combines everything that a horse lover’s heart desires – great, international sport in many disciplines, first-class gastronomy, a huge exhibition and a colorful show program.
This year, the Munich-Riem racecourse will be presenting itself and taking over the namesake of the Speed Trail in Working Equitation. On Saturday, May 20th from 11 a.m., the workers will start their third part of the test – the Munich-Riem racecourse prize.
The press release for the Working Equitation tournament of Pferd International Munich:
The coveted Working Equitation tournament at the Pferd International Munich once again welcomes the “cream of the crop” of riders. The tournament in Munich is an important stage on the way to the European Championships, which will take place in Italy in 2024.
More than 30 riders from eight nations are on the entry list for this year, including Germany’s top rider in the Working Equitation saddle. One of the best-known voices from Germany’s speaking towers, Arnaud Petit, will be taking part with his grey horse Danone san Lourenco. Mirjam Gall, Thomas Türmer and Mitja Hinzpeter have also been announced, to name just a few well-known riders from Germany. In general, the atmosphere at the Working Equitation arena is always special – thousands of spectators make the pilgrimage to the Pferd International Munich every year just to see the “workers” in action. Among the riders themselves, the event is one of the most popular tournaments in all of Europe, because the special atmosphere of the visitors is felt by both rider and horse.
Unlike other disciplines, there are no limits to the choice of horses in working. Whether Haflinger, Tinker or Andalusian – all horses are welcome here and can demonstrate their skills in the varied tasks. When choosing a horse, it is much more a question of the mental strength of the horse and the attitude and motivation it brings to the challenges presented. The joy of completing the tasks must not be missing under any circumstances. The nice thing about it is that not every horse has to be an absolute movement miracle, but it really does depend on rideability and a good interior. It is precisely because of this openness to all horse breeds that the equestrian discipline is in demand among so many and is also becoming increasingly popular.
Overall, the Working Equitation consisted of four sub-disciplines, which were divided up over the four days of the event: dressage kicks off on Thursday, followed by the style trail on Friday, the speed trail heats up Saturday and the grand finale, cattle work, follows on Sunday. The best ten riders qualify on Saturday afternoon for the “Masters of Speed presented by Josera Horse Feed”, which is traditionally held at the Hufeisenplatz Jumping and will show the jumping-loving public what the working horses can do. The cattle work on Sunday is also a big crowd puller, where the cooperation between rider and horse is particularly demonstrated. The task is to select a marked cow from a herd and drive it into a pen at the other end of the area. A cow specially assigned to the rider must be separated from the herd and driven into the pen together as a team. Time counts! The team that completes the task the fastest wins.
