Season opener in Munich-Riem on Sunday

The Munich Racing Club kicks off the 2026 horse racing season at the Munich-Riem racecourse with seven races. On Sunday, April 19th, the starting gates will open at 11:00 AM for the Erftmühle Stud Prize, a €10,000 race over 2,200 meters for three-year-old horses. Among the nine starters are some interesting candidates who could potentially compete in the biggest races later in the year.

The performance of number one Worrington is likely to be followed with considerable interest. The colt belongs to the Cloverleaf stable and is trained by Yasmin Almenräder in Mülheim an der Ruhr – a combination that won the German Derby last summer with Hochkönig. With Dastan, Varley, Abacus, Four Seasons, and Westminster Sky, there are five other candidates on the entry list for the German Derby, so there’s a bit of a Derby atmosphere in the air on the Isar River.

Local favorite Aggenstein with top weight in handicap II

The highest prize money is in the third race of the day, the Riem Golf Club Prize. This 2,000m handicap race for three-year-olds and older has a total purse of €13,000. Nine horses are running, with the highest weight carried by the seven-year-old Aggenstein, trained locally by Jutta Mayer, while the four-year-old mare Lorella, trained by Marcel Weiß, has the lowest weight.

The V4 bet, with a guaranteed payout of €10,000, begins with the second race of the day, an amateur race over 1,600 meters with eleven starters. The V4 bet requires correctly predicting the winners of four consecutive races. The Munich Racing Club will again attempt the highly lucrative V7 this year, but it will not make its comeback in Riem until Pentecost Saturday, May 23rd.

Good betting odds

In the penultimate race of the day, the MIG Funds Prize, a Class III handicap race over 1,400m with a prize purse of €10,250, the Superfecta bet will be offered. Anyone who correctly predicts the first four finishers in the eleven chosen horses in the correct order has the chance to win at least €10,000. However, if there are multiple correct predictions, the guaranteed prize money will be divided among the winners.

The first race day of the year in Riem promises top-notch entertainment not only for betting and sports fans, but for all visitors. “We have our popular children’s area again, and food trucks and stalls will cater to everyone’s needs,” says Sascha Multerer, Managing Director of the Munich Racing Club. “The racing season can begin, and those who aren’t lucky with their bets will get a second chance to win attractive prizes through the losing bets raffle.”
