The stallion, who belongs to a 20-strong group of owners, started at the back of the field in the most important German horse race with prize money of 650,000 EUR. It was only in the last 600 m that jockey René Piechulek set the stallion, who changed hands for 49,000 EUR at the auction in Baden-Baden two years ago, rolling up the field from behind within 300 m and easily overtaking Mr. Hollywood, who had been in the lead until 100 m before the finish. The victory brought the owners of Fantastic Moon a profit of 390,000 EUR. Trainer Sarah Steinberg achieved something historic with this success, as she is the first trainer to win the most important German horse race. For the Riem training location, it was the first German Derby victory in around 70 years. The last time Singlspieler brought victory in the German Derby to Munich was in 1947.
