A long galloping weekend came to an end yesterday, Sunday, and two Riemer trainers were certainly more than satisfied with the results since Thursday. Werner Glanz was able to pick up three winners from the track, scoring points on Thursday in Cologne with Stall Challengers Vincero, who was impossible to beat with Sibylle Vogt. Sibylle Vogt also turned the ride on Susanne Beyreuthers Zoohoor in Dresden on Saturday, winning the handicap III. Last but not least, there was also a Munich winner on Sunday in Hanover with Leon, who secured another victory for Stall Challenger with Patrick Gibson.
Michael Figge, on the other hand, was in action in Switzerland yesterday afternoon. The destination was the race track in Frauenfeld, where the Suisse Derby 2022 was decided. The victory almost went to Munich, because Stall Holsboers’ Astoria fought with Marco Casamento to the line and was only defeated by a short head against the gelding Hallo Holy Hay, who, as a long outsider, had the slightly better result. The place of honor can still be considered a nice success, especially as it was rewarded with an impressive EUR 9,320.
Nachtrose wins the Oaks d’Italia – Assistant gets the Derby ticket
Outstanding results this weekend were also achieved by horses that have already competed in Riem this year. Nachtrose, who won the SMC Investment Bank prize at the start of the Riem season on May 1st, won the Oaks d’Italia in Milan and brought the owner stable Nizza a whopping 176,500 EUR, and Peter Schiergen won the most important competition for three-year-old mares in Italy. The places in this classic of the Italian racing season went to Atomic Blonde and Zefania, which meant a German three-way bet.
While Assistent was narrowly defeated in the SMC Investment Bank Prize, the stallion was able to mark the greatest success of the Liberty Racing 2020 consortium yesterday afternoon and won the Grand Prix of meravis, a listed race that was held as a Derby trial on the racecourse in Hanover. The Sea the Moon stallion received a mark of 87.5 kg for this performance, thus securing his place in the Derby and moving up to sixth place in the bookmakers’ Derby long-term market. The current long-term market is led by the Bavarian Classic participants So Moonstruck, Sammarco and the winner of the Bavarian Classic is also currently in shared third place.
