After a three-year hiatus, the V7 bet made a successful comeback at the Munich-Riem racetrack. Sascha Multerer, managing director of the Munich Racing Association, expressed his satisfaction with the relaunch of the bet, which requires participants to correctly pick the winners of all seven races. “It was a successful relaunch,” said Multerer. “Overall, we really enjoyed the sunny Allianz Family Race Day, which drew more visitors than last year—there were around 3,500 people at the track.”
The three-year-old stallion See Ares kicked off the day over 1,400 meters. Trained by Henk Grewe in Cologne, the favorite won in commanding fashion with Leon Wolff in the saddle. The favorite also took the second race of the day: The five-year-old Kaviar, prepared by Werner Glanz in Riem, left nothing to chance under multiple German jockey champion Bauyrzhan Murzabayev against his training partner Pepperfly in the VD Mayr Prize over 2,000 meters.
Two wins for Hillis and Murzabayev
Murzabayev secured a second win of the day in the penultimate race, the Paktum Prize over 1,500 meters. Riding the seven-year-old mare Djariya, he overtook her eight rivals down the home stretch and relegated the favorite, Amazing Luna, to second place. Djariya is trained locally by John David Hillis. “It’s wonderful to win two races in one day at my home track,” said the former jockey from Ireland, who has been working as an independent trainer in Munich since 2010.
Hillis had already triumphed earlier in the day’s sporting highlight, the €7,500 Allianz Family Festival Prize, a Class III race over 2,000 meters. The eight-year-old Launching Percy, owned by the Servus Habedehre stable, demonstrated all his experience under jockey Eduardo Pedroza. “I had a good feeling, so I didn’t send him to the front until late,” said the winning jockey.
Akronym is back
Birgit Wagner, from Langenhagen near Hanover, trains her own horse. Riding the five-year-old Invincible Royale, she won the MIG-Fonds Prize, also a Handicap III race, but over a fast 1,300 meters. Young rider Esentur Turganaaly Uulu guided the “Unbeatable” to victory.
After a nearly two-year hiatus, the four-year-old mare Akronym from the famous Röttgen Stud made her comeback over 1,600 meters in Riem. The horse trained by Maxim Pecheur won easily under jockey Rene Piechulek. The amateurs provided the finale. In the Ausgleich IV over 2,000 meters, the five-year-old Superjet won. Swen Straßmeier from the Landshut district in Lower Bavaria serves in multiple roles here: as jockey, trainer, and owner.
The event continues on June 22
The next race day is Monday, June 22—the popular after-work race day—when the Riem racetrack is expected to be packed again, weather permitting. In addition to seven horse races, the program also includes a harness race.
