Delozier and Figge two-time winners on Germany’s best after-work race day

The French jockey Lukas Delozier, well-known in Germany, capped off the Auto Häusler After-Work Race Day at the Munich-Riem racecourse with two victories. In front of a good 8,500 spectators, Delozier won both the first and last races of the popular “after-work” racing event. “The severe weather warning cost us some spectators,” said Sascha Multerer, Managing Director of the Munich Racing Club. “But the atmosphere and betting volume were good again; the cars on display from our partner Häusler attracted great interest, as did the autograph session with the TSV 1860 pros. It is and remains Germany’s best after-work race day.”

In the Continental Cup over 2,000m for three-year-old horses, Delozier steered the favorite Antinori to a ultimately comfortable victory over the mare Coletta. It was the first of four home victories for the Riemer training center. Antinori is being trained by Sarah Steinberg. Although the stallion still has an entry for the German Derby, the trainer said after the race: “Let’s forget about the Derby.” Instead, Antinori is scheduled to compete in the BBAG Auction Race over 2,200m on Derby day in Hamburg.

Three victories go to Dresden and Baden-Baden

In the final race of the day, Delozier struck again: in the final stride, he secured the Opel / Stellantis Race, a 7,000 Euro handicap over 1,500m, on Flamingo Hollow. The seven-year-old is trained in Dresden by Stefan Richter, who regularly comes to Riem. Second place went to the five-year-old Son Gual, who, like Coletta, is trained by Gerald Geisler in Iffezheim near Baden-Baden. Geisler, who competed in Munich for several years, escaped damage in the Honda Handicap, a 2,000m handicap. The four-year-old mare Kanzashi, ridden by Bertrand Flandrin, easily won by two lengths ahead of the favorite Petra My Love.

Trainer Karoly Kerekes also moved from Munich to Iffezheim. Riding the six-year-old Elmos Fire, the Hungarian achieved his first victory at his old stomping grounds since moving at the beginning of the year. Senan MacRedmond won the Mazda Cup over 2,000m. Riemer trainer Michael Figge celebrated two victories: with the four-year-old Amazing Luna over 1,400m in the Goodyear Race, and with the six-year-old Aguna in the Mobil1 Cup over 1,600m. The riders were Vladimir Panov and Michael Cadeddu, respectively.

The most popular winner of the day was in the Cargarantie Race, a handicap IV over 2,000m: The four-year-old mare Veneziana belongs to the Galopp Club Süddeutschland, which currently claims 140 members. Accordingly, the winner’s podium was packed. “She’s not an easy horse; it was a lot of work,” said champion jockey Thore Hammer-Hansen after the victory over her training partner Phillis. Both are coached by Werner Glanz in Riem.

Grand Dallmayr Prize at the end of July

The event continues in Riem on Sunday, July 27, with a premium race day. “Each race has a minimum purse of €15,000,” says the managing director. “The supporting program includes a Listed race and a Handicap I, each with €25,000 up for grabs.” The highlight of the most popular race day of the year, however, is the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis, one of the best and most important races in Germany. The Group I 2,000m competition for three-year-olds and older horses carries a purse of €155,000 and has been run as a Bavarian Breeding Race since 1866.
