The green gallop season is slowly getting into full swing in Germany – the Münchener Rennverein is also opening the 2025 racing year on Easter Monday. “We have returned to our traditional date at Easter,” says the Managing Director of the Münchener Rennverein, Sascha Multerer. The late November date, which fell victim to the weather last year, has been canceled.
The racing club offers seven races on Easter Monday at the racecourse in Munich-Riem. It starts relatively early – the first start is scheduled for 11:14 a.m., as the first five races are part of the program of the French state betting provider PMU. They can therefore be followed live in more than 13,000 PMU betting shops.
First premium handicap
The focus of the race day is the first so-called Premium Handicap, a level IV over 2,000m. The umbrella organization Deutscher Galopp and the racing clubs have decided on a program to increase the race prices. “This will benefit riders, trainers, owners and breeders alike,” says Multerer, who also heads the operating company of the German racing clubs BGG. The medium-term goal is to increase the number of horses in training.
There are 15 premium race days this year – Munich is included twice with its two main race days of the year on July 27 and November 8. In addition, ten premium handicaps will be offered in Germany, starting with Riem. The MIG Fonds Premium Handicap (5th race / start at 13:22) on Easter Monday, for example, comes with prize money of €15,000 in a level IV handicap, significantly more than usual in this category.
The interest of the racing stables is correspondingly high: 14 horses are competing. Rum Tum Tugger with amateur rider Jaqueline Laquai carries the highest weight, at the lower end is his four-year-old rival Alive and the six-year-old Santino Corleone from Gerald Geisler’s stable, who is traveling from Baden-Baden and used to train in Riem.
Win free jumps to Alter Adler
The sporting highlight is the TMBZ Seehof Prize, a level II race over 1,600 m with 13,000 euros up for grabs. The racing club will pay out 10,000 euros each in the level III race over 1,400 m, the Serkan Türk Memorial Race, and in the winless race for three-year-old horses over 1,600 m. The latter is the prize of Gestüt Erftmühle. The latter is the prize of Gestüt Erftmühle. In addition to the prize money, the owners of the winner and runner-up will receive free jumps for Alter Adler, who is a stud stallion at Erftmühle.
The Münchener Rennverein has also been supporting amateur sport for years. The battle for the Bavarian Amateur Championships 2025 opens in a level IV over 1,600m. Eleven riders will compete in the AS Innenausbau Prize. The race is also the start of the popular V4 bet in Munich, where the aim is to bet on the winners of races 2 to 5. The racing club guarantees this with a prize payout of 10,000 euros, which is divided among the successful bettors. The same applies to the four-horse bet in the 5th race. Here, the first four horses must be found in the correct order. As usual on a race day in Munich, there will also be a wide range of gastronomic offerings on the track and a comprehensive children’s program with a bouncy castle, carousel and pony rides at the start of the season. In addition, the Easter bunny will bring little presents for the youngest.
