Wies’n race day with Piechulek hat trick

Double winner for Hillis and Glanz

“A great Wies’n race day with ideal Oktoberfest weather!” This is the brief summary of today’s race day by Sascha Multerer, Managing Director of the Munich Racing Club, which ended with music from the Wies’n band “The Derbys”. Before that, there were seven races for the approximately 2,000 visitors at the horse racing track in Munich-Riem with “satisfied partners of the racing club and good betting turnover,” said Multerer.

Double victories for Hillis and Glanz
The six trainers active on site were able to score some successes again. John David Hillis had a particularly good afternoon, scoring two victories in a row. In the Luimex.de amateur race over 2,000m – it was the 4th round of the Bavarian Amateur Championship 2023 – the seven-year-old Ballindinas, prepared by Hillis, won with Konstantin Phillip just ahead of Waldgeist.

Following this, Ferragosta, who is already nine years old, scored points in the Meine Volksbank-Raiffeisenbank race over 1,600m with amateur rider Ines Löwe against Today Power, ridden by Philip. Both horses are trained by Hillis. Werner Glanz also won two races: with New Diamond in the Emil Frey Sportivo Challenge over 2,000m and with Domeniko in the Wenatex Winner Prize over 1,600m.

Both horses were ridden by Rene Piechulek, who also triumphed for his partner Sarah Steinberg in the AMZ Welcome Back race over 1,600m. The three-year-old mare Wolfsfährte was an easy winner against Wynono from Glanz-Quartier. “I haven’t had three wins in one day for a long time,” said a delighted Piechulek, who also won the German Derby this year.

Guest successes for Bocskai and Grewe
But the guest trainers also had some victories. Henk Grewe from Cologne won the opening event in the Schloss Tüssling Prize for two-year-old horses with Wilko. Eddy Pedroza was the winning rider. And Carmen Bocskai from Iffezheim near Baden-Baden was successful with the three-year-old mare Joli Corbeau, who won the Abendzeitung anniversary prize over 2,000m. In the saddle was the best rider in Germany, Sibylle Vogt.
The next race day in Riem is on Saturday, October 14th..
