Before the races, the racing club and the Riemer training center offered information about horse racing. “It was very well received,” said Multerer. Among other things, Andrea Mayer, daughter of trainer Jutta Mayer, showed how to saddle a racehorse. The seven-year-old Poldi’s favorite served as a “model.” The attention spurred the stallion on: in the Lotto Bayern Grand Prix, a handicap III over 1,600m with prize money of 6,500 euros, he surprisingly won with the young amateur Konstantin Philipp in the saddle, ahead of the favorite Star’s Of Pride and the gray Angry Bird.
The odds of winning for Poldi’s favorite were 13.7:1, the three-way bet paid 206.1:1. In the stallion’s 25th start, it was the fourth victory of his long career. As a two-year-old, Poldi’s Liebling even won a group race in 2017, which are the internationally classified performance tests that are particularly important from a sporting and breeding perspective. Since 2019, Poldi’s Liebling has been prepared for Ajax Racing by Jutta Mayer.
Two victories for Werner Glanz and amateur Konstantin Philipp
It was not to be Riemer’s only home victory that afternoon: Philipp won the Luminex race on Trust On Me, a handicap IV over 1,600m and part of the Bavarian Amateur Championship. The trainer is Werner Glanz, who previously won the Bavarian Casino Prize for three-year-old horses over 1,600m with New Diamond.
New Diamond was saddled by young talent Leon Wolff. He managed the feat of getting his boots back into the stirrups during the race without falling. Wolff also had to pass an inspection by the race management because on the home straight New Diamond had crossed far to the outside and got into the track of second-placed Scarlet. However, the referees did not see any obstacle that would have decided the race.
Kavar is highly superior
Right at the start, Waldeza, trained by Sarah Steinberg in Riem, won the Bayernlos race for two-year-old horses over 1,000m. Winning rider René Piechulek had to work harder than expected on the 1.9:1 favorite to keep Zarisa in check. The trainer of the runner-up, Henk Grewe, then came away unscathed in the Allianz General Agency Andreas Wittmann Prize over 2,100m. The three-year-old mare Kavar from Darius Racing was a superior winner. Jockey Michael Cadeddu didn’t have to lift a finger to take the victory to Cologne.
The Eurojackpot lottery prize, a handicap III over 2,200m, also went to Cologne – by Neruas for the team of Peter Schiergen and Bauyrzhan Murzabayv, who won the German Derby with Sammarco in July. The winner of the Ach Was Memorial, a handicap IV over 2,100 m and also part of the Bavarian Amateur Championship race series, came from Magdeburg. The five-year-old mare Shape Of You is prepared by Frank Fuhrmann and ridden by Janina Boysen.
